The Y-Type Strainer is the most common type of Strainer. It derives its name because of the shape, as it is like a "Y," where a screen chamber is placed at an angle to the pipeline, allowing debris collection without blocking the flow. Most Acme Y strainers have a 60 degree curve. It removes debris, rust, scale, and unwanted solid particles from liquids, gases, and steam — protecting downstream equipment such as pumps, heat exchangers, control valves, and steam traps from damage. It is sometimes also used for Final Filtration of Process Fluids.
The fluid enters through the inlet and moves through a filter element (wire mesh, perforated metal, wedge wire) located in the angled leg of the "Y" body. Solid particles are trapped inside the mesh; clean fluid flows out through the outlet. When the mesh accumulates debris, we can open a drain valve or 3rd side cover to remove the filter and clean it. All Acme Y Strainers come with Drain Plugs, We can also Add Drain Valve and Auto Drain Valves If required.
